Students from Royal Gorge Academy volunteered their time at Safety Town. Students helped out Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The dollar value for their volunteer hours added up to $3,008.72. Needless to say, the help was appreciated! All volunteer will be recognized at the graduation ceremony held Parent Weekend.

The Environmental Club celebrated Earth Day, April 22. Students kicked off the day with a visit to the Fort Carson burn site. Students picked up trash to help prevent future fires. In addition, students picked up trash around main street in Canon City, fed ducks at the park, and ate pizza at Pizza Madness. The staff and students had a lot of fun.

Students now have the option of joining Psychology Club. The objective of the club is to help others. Fun activities will be planned throughout the year. Club members will have the opportunity to volunteer their time at local organizations. We will keep the blog posted.

Students volunteered their time at the Children’s Discover Festival held at the Holy Cross Abbey on Saturday, April 5th, 2008. Students were assigned to various booths and did everything from face painting to managing the petting zoo.

August Mergelman teaches English at Royal Gorge Academy and is a playwright on the side. Recently his play, A Midsummer Night’s Western, was published. It is being preformed most weekends at Red Rocks Community College, 5420 Miller Street in Arvada, in April 2008. Call 303-914-6010 for information on show times and tickets.

Nichole, a past RGA student, plans to attend Parent Weekend IX to share her inspiring story with parents. Nichole will speak at the Parent Social on Saturday, May 3rd from 8am to 9am. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Students had a great Easter. They woke up to a basket beside their bed filled with candy and other goodies. In addition, students spent the day watching movies, eating candy, and participating in other fun activities!

Today, the student body attended an assembly hosted by DeVry University. During the assembly, students completed a personality inventory. The results of the inventory suggested careers the student may be interested in.
A former RGA student was a guest speaker at the assembly. After graduating the character development program at Royal Gorge Academy, Nichole was motivated to continue her success at home. Nichole’s story is inspiring. She gave her first motivational talk today at the assembly. We appreciate Nichole and the support she offers to past and present students!

The main building, which houses the dorms, administrative offices and meeting rooms, is secured 24 hours-a-day and the entire campus is closed to the public. Surveillance cameras are located throughout the campus. Students are supervised by staff 24 hours-a-day. Night staff perform dorm room checks throughout the night, and the dorm is equipped with a security system.

Royal Gorge Academy’s students enjoy a large, landscaped campus with excellent facilities, including comfortable dormitories, spacious dining area, fully-equipped classrooms, a full gymnasium with weight and exercise rooms, a large indoor heated swimming pool, tennis courts, outdoor sports fields, and a performing arts auditorium.
